Summer is almost here! Now is the right time to take care of some of the outside work around your house before it gets too hot and prevent any further damage from the hot weather that is on its way.

If you’re just joining our monthly home maintenance checklist series, you should read up on the monthly home maintenance items. For your convenience, we turned this June home maintenace checklist into a printout.

June Home Maintenance items:

  • Check the monthly home maintenance items.
  • Clean and repair window and door screens.
You’ll probably be opening your windows a lot more over the next few months. If you have screens, then you probably don’t want the extra visitors that will come through any open holes.
  • Check for air leaks.
Although most people think about doing this as winter approaches, it’s a good idea to do it before summer. If you’re going to have the A/C on, then you probably don’t want that cold air escaping and more importantly, you don’t want that hot air getting in.
The department of Energy has a very useful guide for checking for air leaks.
  • Check for peeling paint.
You’ll want to get any peeling paint repaired before the hot summer months begin. The hot weather will cause the paint to peel more, which could end up costing you more money and time down the road.
If you are going to do any painting, make sure that it won’t be raining any time soon. Otherwise you’ll end up with peeling or bubbles in you paint.
  • Inspect for insects.
Late spring is a good time to check for pests because it is after they have set up their homes, but before they have massively multiplied. What was a little problem in June can be a big, expensive problem in September.
Not sure how to find those little critters, this guide will help you detect termites and other wood destroying insects.
