Saying you want to lose weight or quit smoking sound like great resolutions, but more often than not, they end up only being a phrase said when the new year rolls in. If you really are ready tackle some common new year’s resolutions, here are a few reasons why it might pay to take those resolutions seriously and stick to them.

Resolution: Lose Weight

Besides the added benefit of feeling great about yourself, if you lose weight, or especially if you have lost weight and have been keeping it off, you can save some money on your life insurance premiums. If you have been 30 pounds or more over weight, when you lose weight you should let your life insurance company know that you lost those pounds. The rates are calculated on a weight to height ratio and a reduction in weight should yield a lower insurance premium.

Resolution: Quit Smoking

Obviously, you’ll save money by not purchasing packs of smokes. However, if you can quit for a year or longer, your life insurance company should offer you a reduced rate. Some insurance plans even offer a tiered reduction in rates to encourage you to quit smoking. Check with your insurance carrier to see if they have a plan to help you quit. Also, your health insurance company might offer free aids to help you quit, too.

Resolution: Save for a Rainy Day Fund or Retirement

So many people are constantly looking towards the future that they are overlooking the here and now. The truth is if you don’t have proper insurance and you don’t have at least 2 years worth of cash in your savings, then you are just one incident away from being financially devastated. Insurance is your best protection to get you started on your financial fitness goals. There are many affordable insurance options available to make sure you’re protected. Once you have the right insurance plan in place, then start saving!
