OSHA estimates that there are 24,882 injuries and as many as 36 fatalities per year due to falls from stairways and ladders used in construction.

Falls from portable ladders (step, straight, combination and extension) are one of the leading causes of occupational fatalities and injuries.

• Read and follow all labels/markings on the ladder.

FALLS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN CONSTRUCTION. In 2010, there were 264 fall fatalities (255 falls to lower level) out of 774 total fatalities in construction. These deaths are preventable.

OSHA offers a wide selection of training courses and educational programs to help broaden worker and employer knowledge on the recognition,

This is a two-hour training component emphasizing workers’ rights. It is required content in every 10- and 30-hour OSHA Construction, General Industry, and Maritime Outreach course. OSHA developed the component in support of the Secretary of Labor’s goal of strengthening the voice of workers on the job.

The OSHA Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces in the construction industry.
